The goals of the Economic Development Department are to generate partnerships, develop infrastructure projects, ensure financial growth and build a strong, sustainable First Nation.

The Chippewas of Georgina Island developed the Island View Business Centre in 2016 as an economic driver for our community.

Training & Employment Development Fund (TED)

This is a limited fund designed to provide financial assistance to First Nation members for training to help overcome skill-based barriers. Funds may be used for:

  • Tuition fees not covered under Post-Secondary Education funding for programs less than one year
  • Course costs such as Driver’s Education, Health & Safety, etc.
  • Fees for certificates, exams and licenses

Hugh (Buzzy) Big Canoe Youth Entrepreneurship Award

This annual program was established by the Ogemawahj Tribal Council in 2009 to honour Buzzy Big Canoe’s dedication to empowering youth and supporting community self‑sustainability. The award recognizes deserving individuals aged 15 to 29 who demonstrate strong leadership qualities and show interest in starting a new business or expanding an existing one. Applications are accepted each year until April 30, and successful applicants may receive up to $5,000 in funding.
