Chief Donna BigCanoe serves the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation with dedication integrity, and a strong commitment to community well‑being. Her leadership is grounded in Anishinaabe values, respect for tradition, and a deep sense of collective responsibility to present and future generations.
 
As Chief, Donna BigCanoe provides strategic leadership to Council and administration, supporting effective governance, community engagement, and Nation‑to‑Nation relations. She is the portfolio holder for Council, Legal, Community and Public Relations, Transportation Administration, Williams Treaty Relations, and Child Well‑Being Jurisdiction, overseeing key areas fundamental to the Nation’s sovereignty, service delivery, and long‑term sustainability.
 
In her role, Chief BigCanoe works to ensure strong legal and governance frameworks, clear and transparent communication with members and external partners, and responsible administration of transportation services. She also leads work related to Williams Treaty relations, advancing the Nation’s rights and interests through dialogue, advocacy, and collaborative engagement. Her leadership in Child Well‑Being Jurisdiction reflects a commitment to protecting children, strengthening families, and ensuring culturally grounded approaches to care and decision‑making.
 
Chief BigCanoe places great importance on listening to community voices and values the guidance of Elders, the perspectives of youth, and the contributions of families and knowledge‑keepers. She strives to create inclusive, accountable, and respectful leadership processes that reflect community priorities and support resilience.
