The Georgina Island First Nation Education Department is committed to supporting families in understanding the schooling options available both on and off reserve. The following information outlines current guidelines in accordance with the Education Transportation Policy approved by Chief and Council. These regulations ensure equitable access to education while maintaining responsible use of community resources.
On- and Off-Reserve Students Attending Waabgon Gamlg (JK-Grade 5}
All students enrolled in Waabgon Gamig First Nation School from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 receive full tuition and transportation coverage provided by Georgina Island First Nation (GIFN).
Students living on-Reserve In Grades 6-8 Enrolled in Morning Glory Public School and Secondary Students at Sutton District High School (Sutton DHS)
For students residing on reserve and attending Morning Glory Public School (Grades 6-8) or Sutton District High School, both transportation and tuition costs are fully covered by GIFN under the Education Transportation Policy.
JK-SK Students Attending Off Reserve
For families choosing to enroll JK or SK students in off-reserve schools, neither tuition nor transportation costs are covered.
Tuition costs will be covered once parents/guardians notify the Director of Education of the decision to attend school off reserve.
Transportation is not provided for these grades.
Tuition and transportation may be covered upon formal request to the Director of Education. Decisions will be based on individual circumstances, program needs, and alignment with the Education Transportation Policy.
Students requiring attendance in specialized programs due to exceptional learning needs will have tuition and transportation reviewed and determined on a case-by-case basis.
